A blistering attack some 19 kilometres from the finish made 20-year-old Frenchman Paul Seixas the youngest winner in the history of Il Lombardia, the Tour of Lombardy. His victory in the one-day Monument in northern Italy ended the five-year reign of Tadej Pogacar, who missed the race through injury. After almost six gruelling hours in the saddle, Seixas finished 48 seconds clear of Spain's Enric Mas to etch his name into the history of a race first held in 1905.
"I had the feeling today would be a great day. It feels like a dream," French cycling's new star said after his win. Seixas finished fourth at the Tour de France this season and won La Flèche Wallonne at the age of 19, further underlining his dominant position in elite cycling.
