A signed red jersey worn by Michael Jordan in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14 million in a private sale. The deal, handled by Hunt Auctions, makes it the most expensive piece of basketball memorabilia in history. Wearing that very jersey against the Utah Jazz on 5 June 1998, Jordan scored 37 points to draw the Chicago Bulls level in the Finals series, and the team went on to win their sixth championship.
The record-breaking collectible was bought by Miami investor Ron Firman. "Michael Jordan was an incredibly talented player who is admired around the world. I'm very excited about the purchase," Firman said after completing the historic deal. Remarkably, it is the third Jordan jersey from the 1998 Finals to sell for more than $10 million.
